After a year of hard work and planning Camp Combrogi finally took place on 15th August 2013. Scouts from Keswick, Penrith and Shap were joined by Keswick’s twinned scout group Stella Maris from Malta for a four-day Jamboree. Stella Maris arrived late on Friday evening to a rapturous round of applause from Cumbrian scouts, leaders and helpers already on site. The cubs arrived the following morning and the beavers on Sunday.
The camp was packed full of activities such as archery, shooting, kayaking, canoeing, raft building, climbing wall, water tunnel, pioneering and backwoods cooking. Explorers and scouts also took the opportunity to go off site and hike up to Watendlath and Walla Crag. Stella Maris scouts put on a brave face with our typical British weather, finding it somewhat cooler than the 30 plus degrees that they are used to in Malta at this time of year.
Sunday’s evening’s meal was a hog roast followed by a traditional camp fire with entertainment, fortunately we managed to dodge the rain showers. On Monday Stella Maris prepared a special dinner for the entire camp under the supervision of their GSL Joseph Bartolo and his wife Anna.
It was a fantastic camp bringing together scouts from home and abroad. Certainly all who attended will take away with them lasting memories and friendships.
